Chris Neery (Curtiss) was born in Lewiston, Idaho, and grew up
in the towns of Pomeroy and Tacoma. The major thrust of her early life was music,
since mother and father were both
music teachers. However, at a very young age, her father,
Dick, taught her the game of golf.
Chris graduated with
honors from Curtis High School in 1968, then spent the next two
years at the University of Puget Sound, majoring in Liberal
Arts. In 1973, filled with wanderlust, she applied to, and
was hired by, Pan American World Airways. From 1973 to
1987, she would feed her wanderlust traveling the world while
making her home base in London,
Honolulu, and Los Angeles.
During those years her involvement in golf diminished and,
in 1980 she met and married John Neery. Four years later,
Sean Neery was born. Wanting to be at home to raise
her son, Chris resigned from Pan Am.
In 1987, Chris resumed her involvement in golf by becoming
right hand man to her mother, Joan Teats, at WGJA. Her
experience in golf gradually evolved from being that of a player
of the game, to being that of administrator of the game.
