Jerry was first exposed to golfing at age 11, when he became a caddie at the Olympic View Golf Club in Ballard. Up to this time, no member of Jerry’s family had ever played golf, but his exposure to the game as a caddie got him "hooked" for life.

While in high school, Jerry won the Seattle City High School title in 1950 and also won the Washington State Junior Championship in both 1949 and 1950.

An outstanding high school academic record earned him a scholarship to Yale University. Jerry graduated in 1955, and while at Yale was Captain of the golf team and won the Eastern Intercollegiate Championship as a sophomore in 1953 and again as a senior in 1955.

After graduation, Jerry served two years of active duty in the United States Navy as an officer on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific Fleet. In 1957, he left the military and went to work for Family Life Insurance Company in Seattle, where he rose to the position of Chief Financial Officer.   Also in 1957, while on a blind date at a golf tournament, Jerry met Sally Snider.  In 1958, they married and since, have raised three wonderful children.

Their first oldest, a son, Randall, lives in Seattle and restores classic sports cars. Their second oldest, Rick, was the 1979 WJGA State Champion and has gone on to a successful career on the PGA tour. He and his wife Terri live in Sammamish and are the parents of sons J.D., Mitchell, and Travis. Their youngest, and only daughter Heidi, married Mark Hower and is an interior designer in Seattle. Mark and Heidi have one daughter, Julia.

From '58 to '88, Jerry kept quite busy with career and family which did not allow him a lot of time for competitive golf;  even so, he still managed to win the Washington State Open in 1961.  In addition, he has also captured the following golf titles:

Hudson Cup Team Member 1961
Senior Hudson Cup Team Member 1990
WSGA Senior Amateur Runner-up 1989
WSGA Senior Amateur Champion 1990
PNGA Senior Amateur Runner-up 1991
Seniors’ NW Golf Assn. Champion 1995

Jerry also qualified for five USGA national championships and has won the Club Championship at Sand Point Country Club a record 19 times.

In 1982, Jerry joined the WJGA Board of Directors and became a member of the USGA Junior Championship Committee.  In 1993, he took over as Executive Director of WJGA.  Jerry also serves on the WSGA Championship Committee.

Golf has been a major positive influence on Jerry’s life, and he feels very strongly that it is important that we work to preserve the traditions and benefits of the game for future generations.
