Teams
To be announced in 2008
How WJGA Teams are Chosen
Continuing in 2008 ALL
14-17 division players will be entitled to earn points, whether they are
eligible for teams or not. To be
eligible for the Player of the Year Award, the player must play in at
least one WJGA sub-district event in 2008.
WJGA Teams
will be selected as follows:
A. Boys and
Girls Junior America’s Cup
(4 players each)
These teams will be selected based on total points earned at the
following TWO 36-hole events
only:
|
1. USGA qualifiers
(for girls, USGA spots determined by first 18 holes only.) The
USGA qualifier for girls at Tacoma C&GC will be a dual event.
The first 18 holes will be the USGA qualifier and simultaneously
the first 18 of the WJGA portion of the event. The second 18
played in the afternoon will be used strictly to calculate WJGA
points for selecting the GJAC team. Points will be awarded on
the 36 hole total of BOTH rounds played. |
|
2. Junior World
statewide qualifier –
Players who
placed in the top 10 positions for points during the 2007
season (not including 17 year olds) and who are playing in a
nationally sanctioned junior event that conflicts with their sub
district Junior World qualifying tournament are eligible for
exemption from having to qualify at the sub district
level for the junior world state qualifier at Tumwater.
Requests for exempt status must be
submitted to your District Director by June 11, 2008.
All requests are forwarded by the District Directors to the WJGA
Executive Director at the state office for final approval. |
|
It is the responsibility of the player to notify their
district director of their eligibility for exemption and to
request exemption from their director. |
B.
Hogan
Cup – Boys
(4 players)
This team will be selected based on total points earned for the entire
season, including the State Championship. Boys playing on the JAC
team will not be eligible to play in the Hogan Cup.
C. North
Pacific Junior Ladies
– May 2008 (6 players)
This team will be selected on total points earned for the entire 2007
season. In order to be eligible for selection, players must be a
confirmed member of WJGA for the 2008 season.
D. Player of
The Year Awards (boys & girls) will be selected on play over the entire
season, including points earned at the Boys and Girls Junior America's
Cup events.
|
Cup Team
positions will be filled by WJGA members who are *permanent
residents of the WJGA area and who have not reached their
18th birthday by the last day of the specific competition. |
* Permanent
residents are those who live in the WJGA territory during the summer
season and are either US Citizens or non-citizens who have permanent
resident status.
A WJGA member (boy or
girl) who is actually 12 or 13 as of June 1, 2008 may request permission
to play in the 14-15 division, if their level of experience and skill
justifies doing so. Such a request must be submitted through your
district director who will forward a recommendation to the WJGA office.
The Executive Director will make the final decision on such requests.
If the request is approved, the player will compete in the 14-15
division for the entire 2008 season, and the decision to do so cannot be
withdrawn during the 2008 season. Such players will be eligible to
earn points as they will be competing in the 14-15 division. No
points will be awarded in the 8-11 or 12-13 divisions.
Points will be
awarded as follows:
1) In WJGA
sub-district events, a player earns points for his or her best two
finishes of all sub-district tournaments played.
2)
Points will be awarded to eligible players based on the schedules
shown, and include WJGA events and other selected events.
3)
For purposes of
determining points at all local points events, all players who are
not eligible to earn points will not be considered to be part of the field.
4) All
team members will be determined by points totals. To be placed
on a team the player must not have reached his/her 18th birthday by the last day of the specific
competition.
Accumulated points will be posted at the State Championship.
If there is a tie for a position on a team when the final points are
determined at the end of the State Championship, the tie will be
broken in the following sequence:
1) Lowest 54 hole score at
the State Championship.
2) If
still tied, use the last 18 hole score.
3) If
still tied, use the next to the last 18 hole score.
4) If
still tied, use the first 18 hole score.
5) If
still tied, use the USGA Rules Book, Appendix 1. “How to
Decide Ties in Stroke Play.”
6) If
still tied, a toss of the coin shall be used.
|
Other important
factors are also considered; sportsmanship, attitude and physical
condition (injury or illness). |
If there are ties
for points determining JAC or GJAC team members based on points for
the USGA qualifier and the Tumwater Valley Junior World qualifier,
the tie will be broken first on points earned at Tumwater Valley,
then the last 18 there, then the last 9, etc.
