WALKING SCORER - JOB DESCRIPTION

1) Check in at volunteer area at least 1/2 hour before scheduled tee time.

2) Pick up scoring supplies; clipboard, pencils, yellow flag.

3) Have extra tees and ball markers in your pocket.

4) Wear comfortable walking shoes.

5) Fill out tally sheet and hole-by-hole sheet exactly as printed in pairing sheet.

6) Do not report to the staging area until the group preceding you has left (should be there 10 minutes before tee time).

7) The stager will introduce you. Write any identification aides for your contestants on tally sheet. Example: blue hat, red shirt, etc.

8) Ask each player to identify his/her ball; be sure it is marked. Note ball type on tally sheet.

9) Keep tally of strokes as taken by each player. As junior what he/she had on the hole, do not tell him/her. ANY DIFFERENCE MUST BE SETTLED BEFORE PLAY BEGINS ON THE NEXT HOLE.

10) Each player will also keep his/her own score on the bottom of the fellow competitor’s scorecard. (The person’s card he/she is given to keep score)

11) Any question about a rule of golf, call for a rules official by raising your yellow flag. Get a ruling only from someone in a cart marked with a "WJGA RULES" sign. If in doubt and cannot find a rules official, play a second ball and play both balls into the hole. The player must ANNOUNCE THE FACT THAT HE IS PLAYING A SECOND BALL AND DECLARE WHICH BALL HE/SHE WANTS TO SCORE WITH before he/she commences to play the second ball.

12) Marker should tend the pin on the putting green. Player must hole out on each hole or be DQ’d.

13) If your group is not keeping up with the group ahead, send players to the next tee as soon as they have finished putting.

14) Many practice swings slow up play. Encourage only one practice swing (this usually does not apply to putting and chipping).

15) THE OFFICIAL CARD IS THE CARD KEPT BY THE PLAYERS.

16) After the round is complete, sit at the attesting table in the yellow attesting tent. Completion of the scorecards, signing, attesting, and settling any disputes should be done there. An official will walk through the attesting process with you. Once the card is signed and the group has left the yellow attesting tent, the score stands.

17) Poor sportsmanship and bad language are grounds for disqualification. (See WJGA rules sheet). An official marker may recommend disqualification, but officials will interview both the marker and the player before a final decision is made. Marker should inform player at the time the infraction occurs, but must permit the player to finish the round. Call a rules official if you are having a problem.

18) Introduce yourself to the parents and give gallery instructions in the staging area. They must stay 25 yards away from contestants, in the rough or on cart paths. They may not exchange signals or information. Report infractions to comm9ttee or rules official.
