LJ 61 Award
In Spokane in 2002, Luke Johnson, long-time member of WJGA, shot his personal best, and the best single round score ever recorded at a WJGA State Championship. A scant week later, tragedy struck the Johnson family when the vehicle Luke was driving collided with an oncoming vehicle, leaving Luke fatally injured. Barely 18 years old, Luke left behind a legacy that epitomizes character and sportsmanship. In honor of this young man who began his WJGA membership at age 8, who not only played the game of golf with such enthusiasm and skill, but who also frequently donated his time and energy working as a volunteer at WJGA tournaments, we have created the LJ 61 Award. Beginning with the 2003 season, and each year thereafter, this award will be given to the upper division (14-17) boy and girl who shoot the best single round score during the State Championship Tournament.
