SPOTTER

It is recommended that spotters be placed at potentially troublesome holes where balls may be lost; water holes or blind landing areas that can cause delay of play.

It is the responsibility of the Course Chairman to obtain a Spotter Chairman or sufficient spotters for their course. It is the responsibility of the Rules Chairman to coordinate with the spotters where they are needed on the golf course. The Rules Chairman will instruct the spotter on the signaling to be used for various situations.

Duties of a spotter:

      a)        Locate each player’s ball

      b)        Signal the position of the ball back to the player. Players and spotters need to be instructed on signals to be used.  (See below)

c)       Watch for unsportsmanlike conduct such as

·        Cheating

·        Damaging greens or not repairing ball marks

·        Defacing or destroying golf course property

·        Failure to replace divots or to rake bunkers

·        Poor conduct and general behavior

·        Swearing

·        Throwing clubs

       d)        A spotter may not:

                       1)      touch a player’s ball

                       2)      offer advice

                       3)      make any Rules of Golf decision

Report a violation immediately to a WJGA Rules Official. Identify the player or spectator by the player's group number from the tee sheet and include any identifying features such as shirt color, bag color, or some other identifying feature.

Please use the following signals:

Ball Out of Bounds:  Point with both arms to the out of bounds direction. Hold this position to insure the player/s sees your signal.

Ball In Water:  Extend both arms down in the direction of the water.

Ball Safe In Bounds:  Move arms crossing each other, much like a baseball umpire would signal safe at base.

The time commitment for this job is approximately 5 ½ hours (if using one tee only).  If using two tees, the time commitment will be less.
