Staging                               

Purpose: To reinforce tournament procedures to players just prior to their stipulated round.  To ensure that all players tee-off from their appointed starting hole at their assigned starting time.   Stagers can be any WJGA or other volunteer who has some knowledge of the USGA Rules of Golf and to explain the following items to the players:

This person will be arriving at the golf course very early on tournament day. 

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR STAGER (organized in starter’s box if available)

1)   Daily tee sheet
2)   Local Rules sheet for the course
3)   WJGA Supplemental Rules card
4)   4 different color indelible ID sharpie pens 
5)   Clock
6)   WJGA Code of Conduct
7)   Stager information sheet
8)   Radio

A brief job description would always (there may also be additional duties assigned as needed by the tournament director) include the following;

1 Introduce players to each other and the walking scorer (8-11 and 12-13 divisions only)

Give and highlight to players the local course rules
 
3 Remind players of several important
(applicable to the course being played) rules of golf.
 
4 Demonstrate to players about keeping score on the fellow-competitor’s scorecard and their own score on the bottom of the fellow-competitor's scorecard.  Verify with players which nine they are starting on.

Ask players to mark their golf balls.
 
6 Remind the players about non-conforming clubs and not more than 14 clubs in their golf bag.
 
7 Remind players to seek a rules official for assistance        when needed, and if  they can’t find one, to play a second ball.  Be familiar with the second ball rule. 
 
8 Explain spotter signals to the players.
 
9 Be clear about putting out on every hole.
 
10 Encourage players to keep up with the group ahead of them.
 
11 Indicate to players where their first tee is located.

  The time commitment for this job is approximately 5 ½ hours (if using one tee only).  If using two tees, the time commitment will be less.
