WJGA Announces New Changes in 2025

The Washington Junior Golf Association Board of Directors approved significant changes for the upcoming 2025 WJGA tournament season this past weekend at the WJGA Annual Meeting.
New in 2025 WJGA has created an additional major event and will be hosting the Inaugural Washington State Junior Amateur at Yakima Elks G&CC on Saturday-Sunday, June 7-8, 2025.
This event will be for 14-18 year old boys and girls and will be contested over 54-holes with all players playing 18-holes on Saturday for Round 1 with the field then being cut to the low-55 boys, and low-25 girls after the first round. All players that make the cut will play 36-holes on Sunday, June 8th with the champions crowned at the completion of play on Sunday.
This new event will be a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event, and once it achieves proper strength of field status in the WAGR it is expected to have the Boys and Girls champion earn an exemption into the US Junior and US Girls Junior Amateurs.
In 2025 the Junior World Qualifier will be held concurrently at the new Washington State Junior Amateur with an additional opt-in fee for those wishing to be a part of the Qualifier.
The field will be determined using the Scoring Based Entry system used for WJGA’s spring statewide open events.
Also new in 2025 the Jr. Open events for 8-13 year olds will be rebranded into the WJGA Jr. Tour. The new WJGA Jr. Tour will be for the 8-11 and 12-13 divisions with two additional events being added to make a total of five Jr. Tour events for the spring.
New this year there will be a season long Jr. Tour points list for each age division. The highest point earner in each age division at the conclusion of the 5th WJGA Jr. Tour event will be awarded an exemption to the WJGA State Championship.
Please keep an eye on the WJGA 2025 tournament calendar as dates/sites will be posted when confirmed.
Finally, with the additional WJGA events added over the last 10 years, along with the substantial increase in other playing opportunities, WJGA will be eliminating the 4th Sub-District tournament in all Districts beginning next year.
The summer schedule and program will run the same as in past years except each District will now have three Sub-District tournaments and a District Championship.
2025 will be the 49th season for WJGA and we look forward to another great year with these exciting changes.
